Our Story
The Blue Butterfly story so far…………….
It all started when a close friend was expecting her first little bundle of joy.
Her mother had handed down bags of paraphernalia that she had once used as a baby. Some of it was, let’s say a bit tatty after 30 years, but she couldn’t bear to part with a few things which included some white muslins that were sooooo soft after years of use and washing. They felt like silk compared to the muslin squares that you buy today on the high street.
The muslins were downy soft and still beautifully white but frayed and torn around the edges, no doubt from her very own milk teeth and little pinkies pulling at them all those years ago.
Not being a great seamstress herself, nor the kind of Mummy that would use tatty frayed muslins, I offered to repair them and have them as good as new for when her precious little package arrived.
Some were so frayed, I added some vintage fabric along the edges, in colours that I knew she would love, which perked them up instantly.
She was over the moon when I returned them to her and they took pride of place in her changing bag. Beautiful Ruby was born not long after and they became my friend’s shoulders’ new best friend! Ruby also seemed to love them and their softness as she took to snuggling up with one at bedtime every night and still does to this day!
Her Mummy’s friends loved them too and she was constantly being asked where she got them and where they could buy them from. That’s when my little baby was born - Blue Butterfly……………………
